My Career Journey
If you’re thinking about working with a career coach, chances are you’re probably also thinking about making a career pivot. I know what that’s like—I’ve been there myself! I hope sharing the story of I how navigated my career gives more insight into how I can help you navigate yours.
My career journey began over 15 years ago as a teacher. I taught while pursuing a MA in Educational Psychology because I wanted to make a difference in my community. During my time teaching I felt especially fulfilled as a mentor and coach to my students.
After five years in the classroom, I knew I wanted to pursue a new career path. I spent a lot of time reflecting and even struggling at times to figure out how to pivot. I applied to dozens of non-teaching jobs with little success. I began doubting that I could do anything other than teach as it seemed no one was willing to give me a shot.
Then I tried expanding my approach as well as my professional network. I began volunteering for causes that really mattered to me and meeting new people. After months of volunteer roles, I came across a non-profit called Live Out Loud, whose mission to empower LGBTQ+ youth struck a chord with me. I reached out to the Founder to express my interest in getting involved, and a few months after our first conversation (and a few rounds of interviews), I was offered a full-time program manager role, coaching individuals to return to their hometown high schools to share their story and mentor students.
Four years and over a hundred coaching sessions with Live Out Loud mentors later, I decided to really lean into my passion for coaching, with an emphasis on career development. I made a return to education, but this time outside the classroom as Assistant Director of Career Services at NYU’s Graduate School of Public Service.
Since then, I’ve coached hundreds of students and alumni (from early career professionals to senior leaders), led countless workshops and webinars, and have developed resources to equip people with career-focused knowledge and skills. I’ve also learned quite a bit about the recruitment process by working directly with employers and hiring managers in various industries.
And now that I’ve graduated from NYU’s Professional Coaching program and earned ICF’s Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential, I’m channeling all of my coaching and career education experience into Career Learning Labs to help individuals interested in maximizing their potential achieve their career goals.
